There was a cool breeze blowing but overall yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. Chris got the computer ready early so we would be ready to watch the first session, then we looked outside and realized that it might be the only day we had time to go see the Cherry Blossoms in DC, before they are all gone. For those of you who don't know...Washington DC has a festival every year celebrating the beauty of the many cherry trees in bloom. It's called - surprise - the Cherry Blossom Festival. So we changed our minds on the spur of the moment. Threw our bikes and kids into the car and drove into town.
We knew we wouldn't find a parking spot close so we didn't even bother looking. We parked a couple of miles away and rode into town on our bikes. The boys were very tired but they never complained. I think they really like riding behind Chris in their "kid pod". Considering I grew up with three cherry trees in my own backyard I wasn't too surprised at the beauty of the trees, but I think I got some good pictures.
When we got bored of the trees we made our way over to the mall and watched the many kites that people were flying(here). I should mention that the wind was supposed to get up to 40 MPH throughout the day, so it was perfect for kite flying.......and bubble blowing. Chris brought a large bottle of bubbles and let the wind blow them for him. The boys loved chasing them and we were soon joined by a few Latino kids, and a photographer who works for the Spanish Washington Post Newspaper. (He said that if he got anything good he'd send them to me).
We mostly spent the day wandering from one grassy place to another, looking at trees and enjoying our time together. When it was time to leave we thought we were in for major traffic, but somehow we found ourselves driving a new way home so instead of taking the straight way home, that would have taken several hours because of traffic, we drove the "Scenic route" so it only took just over an hour to get home. It was a great day, and though we missed Saturday Conference, it was definitely worth it. Especially since we watched all of Saturday Conference Sunday morning, BEFORE Sunday's conference started. Good Times!!
