The Tidal Wave

We just returned from our month long vacation. On our trip we had quite the stream of bad luck. We had so much bad luck that I prefer to call it a tidal wave of bad luck instead of a stream. We did have a good time visiting family, but that post will come later. For now I'm going to list all of the bad things that occurred over the last month, just so you all know my pain.

Just before we reached Lincoln Nebraska (maybe an hour away from the city) we realized that we had left Chris' and the boys church clothes back in Virginia. So the next morning(before visiting with the professors at UNL) we had to go buy Chris some new clothes, so he would look presentable for the professors. Because we spent the money on clothes, we decided to not get a hotel room for that night and drove until 3:00 AM Mountain time (so for us it felt like 5 AM) to get to my parents house in Salt Lake.

The following Sunday we had a snow storm around my parents house and an unfortunate accident occurred between the car we were driving (Shawn's car) and another very unfortunate, parked car. So Shawn's car is still in the shop getting fixed and we were not able to properly clean and pass the car off to someone else. Instead my dad has promised to take care of it for us.

So we had to rent a car. The first one we picked up smelled like an animal died in the ventilation so we had to exchange it for another. That was fun.

Amazingly, life calmed down for a while and I thought our luck was changing but then we stayed a night in Reno NV. We didn't sleep well and left the hotel late, and then after driving for an hour, Chris wanted the camera to take some pictures, we realised we'd left the camera bag back at the hotel. The bag contained my camera and lenses, the IPod, our passports(for getting the kids onto the airplane) and a few other expensive items. So we had to drive all the way back to the hotel and get it. At least it was still there.

The night before we left California our rental car was backed into.

In Las Vegas Chris helped his brother build a computer. What should have taken only a few hours ended up taking several days, because everything that could go wrong, did. We left Las Vegas not sure if the computer will run smothly. Here's Hoping. (Also while we were there my sister-in-law lost her wedding ring. Sorry about passing o the bad luck!!!)

Back in Salt Lake, I was sure nothing else could go wrong, but Sam decided to pick up my mom's very large, Christmas Snow globe. I guess he really liked the music. It was too heavy for him and he dropped it. Shattering the glass and spilling water all over the table and floor. We were just relieved that the glass table didn't shatter.

Chris had dreams about our airplane crashing, and though we had quite a bit of turbulence we actually made it home alive last night. I was hoping that our bad luck had finally run it's course. I was wrong. After dropping Landon off at school today, I was pulled over by a very nice police man. I've NEVER been pulled over. On the bright side it wasn't for speeding. He noticed our inspection sticker was out of date. So we have a fix-it ticket.

I know this was way exciting for everyone to read. It's more of a warning for my friends here in Virginia. Maybe you want to stay away from us for a while. At least until we're sure life is back to normal.

Thank you for posting this. Reading the part about being pulled over reminded me that I have to go register our car today. It expires sunday. Sorry your bad luck continued after you left here.
