Another Family Update

Chris took his big test last Saturday. The deadline for applications was on Monday(for all but two schools) so technically his applications are going to be late. The schools say they will still consider his application but he is still at quite a disadvantage considering they look at the applications in order of their arrival. We hope for the best. (While writing this Chris has informed me that we now have the score and so it should be sent to schools by Monday. Not a bad score, though I'll let you guess what it was.) He's also down 20 lbs and looking good!

Landon had a screening this past Thursday with a Occupational Therapist. He had a lot of fun playing with the nice lady. She just reiterated everything I already knew. He has problems with his small motor skills (namely cutting and writing), and it may be due to weakened muscles in his fingers and in the upper shoulder/chest area. She gave me some activities to do with him to help strengthen those muscles, then offered to give him a free full examination. On the drive home we agreed that we should take her up on the examination offer. I wonder if it's even worth it though, since we can't pay for any future therapy they might recommend. I should just forget it and start a daily routine of cutting a writing with him......but I can't seem to shake the idea of just going with the recommendations of the therapist. I just want to do what's best for my son.

Sam is almost completely potty trained. He hasn't soiled his underwear in the last three or four days and his night-diaper has been bone dry for the last two mornings. We told him if he could do that then he could wear underwear to bed. I guess we'll see what he can do tonight. We might be completely free of diapers in the next couple of days. That would be really nice!!! With that in mind....does anyone use size five diapers and need a box of them? We have extra! Sam is very proud of himself and all the big boys things he's been doing lately. He's always telling me how he's keeping his underwear dry and clean, and today while grocery shopping, he was able to go into the "computer room" with Landon. Okay so technically he's not supposed to go to the child care place at Wegmans until he's three, but since he's potty trained we fudged a little. He was so happy and shopping for food without the kids was heavenly, and took half the time it normally takes. AWESOME!

My leg is healing nicely. It no longer aches when I lay down at night and the bruises seem to be fading. My ankle is still a little swollen, I have a big bump along the ridge of my bone, and my foot is still a little blue around the edges, but I'm pretty sure I'll be all better by next week. I have now lost 9 pounds. I had a friend tell me, today that I was practically wasting away. I could only laugh and think to myself the size four says that to the size ten?!!!. Ashley is awesome!

Sorry. No pictures today. I just haven't been in the picture taking mood. I'll shall try to be better.

Okay, I am saying this because I am an occupational therapist. Go with the recommendation. The therapist should be able to give you a pretty good Rx plan that you can actually do at home. OT is all about using everyday experiences to enhance everyday skills. And besides, if you know the basis of the issues, the internet is a fabulous research tool for Rx/play ideas...and I could help out with some ideas too. If you would like.
