We had a fun day yesterday. Chris and I decided to go into town to see the cherry blossoms before all the crowds gather for the Festival, we were a little disappointed to find massive crowds already gathered. But we enjoyed our bicycle ride and picnic along the Potomac River. On our drive home Sam mentioned that he wanted some medicine, I told him he didn't need any, but by bedtime I turned out to be wrong. Sam started wheezing and had a small croupy cough, so I gave him an albuterol treatment. At 9:30 he woke up crying and coughing uncontrollably. We gave him another breathing treatment and laid him down on the couch for another hour so we could give him a third treatment. Chris ended up sleeping on the couch so that he could get some sleep while I "slept" with Sam in our bed. Mostly I stayed awake listening to him breathe, hoping his wheezing wouldn't get worse. He got a fourth breathing treatment around 4:30 AM and sips of water just about every hour through the night. We got out of bed at 8:00 and Chris took the boys so I could get some sleep. Around 9:00 Sam told Chris that he needed to go to the doctor, Chris agreed and got an appointment for 11:00. The doctor said that we had done all the right things, but she was confused as to why Sam would have a fever if it was just an asthma attack, so she ordered some chest x-rays. At 3:00 PM the doctor called us to inform us that Sam has bronchitis. So we filled his prescriptions for a lung steroid and some antibiotics and now Sam is sleeping in his own bed and feeling much better.
I was just amazed at how Sam knew what he needed and pointed it out to us. Good thing Chris listened to him this morning. Mostly I'm just grateful for modern medicine that helps my boys breathe and helps us avoid the emergency room fees.
Note from Chris: Greatest doctor EVER! Charged me 40 bucks... and got the x ray folks to charge me just 30$. Couldn't believe it!
