We're sick. When I say "WE" I mean everyone (except Landon who had these symptoms last week) has been sick for the past 3-4 days. The flu is a terrible thing! Fever, headaches, body aches, runny nose, sneezing, coughing and in Sam's case puking. I feel like we had H1N1 all over again, but in a condensed version. I'm feeling a little better tonight, though my ears are still ringing a little, I'm still coughing and the back of my throat is a little sore, but at least my head is no longer throbbing.
Seeing as how I don't want to be too down about life, I'm going to bring up Sam's most recent question.
Last week I was watching Castle with Sam as I was putting Seth down for his morning nap.
Sam: Mom, what does sex mean?
Me: ummmm......what?
Sam: What does sex mean?
Panic runs through my brain. What do I say? How do I answer that question on his five-year-old level, without bringing up more awkward questions, but yet still satisfying his need for an answer?
Me: Let's call daddy!"
First I texted Chris. His reply was a "good luck with that one! lol"
I sighed and hoped that it had been long enough that Sam had forgotten his question.
Sam: What did Dad say?
Me: Uhhh......he hasn't answered yet.
Sam picks up my phone shakes and yells at it: ANSWER ME! ANSWER ME! ANSWER ME!
So I called Chris. He was having lunch in the law school lunch room, surrounded by many people and apparently had us on speaker phone (so he could eat and talk at the same time) for everyone to hear Sam ask THE QUESTION. I could almost hear his face turning a little red from embarrassment.
Chris and I eventually gave him an answer that satisfied his curiosity but I would really like to know -
How would you have answered my five-year-old?
