Suprise!

It was VERY cold yesterday. So cold that when Chris took the boys to the park, they came back just five minutes later. Sam was angry, he didn't want to come inside because he didn't get to go down the slide, but it was wet, and his chin was shivering -though we had him as bundled up as his small coat would let him be. Note to self- get Sam a bigger coat so he can wear a sweater under it.

So it should be no surprise to me that is snowed last night, but when I looked outside and saw the snow I was surprised. The only snow we've seen here so far has been a small flurry, blizzard looking thing that lasted five minutes and didn't stick - didn't even wet the ground. The wind just blew snow flakes around in the air really fast, making it look like a blizzard - but it really wasn't.

I haven't seen REAL snow since the winter of 06-07, before Sam was born. We lived in Logan Ut, and we got a lot of snow there. In so many ways I miss snow. It reminds me that it really is winter. When I look out my window and see no snow I usually think to myself "It must be warm outside, do I really need that big winter coat?" So I can now say I've sen snow here in Virginia.

Please excuse the messyness of our backyard. Just ignore all that and see the snow. Yes, SNOW! It may not even be a full inch, and it will probably melt in the next hour, but it's on the ground right now. Chris might even be happy about it when he wakes up. Happy yet dissapointed, because it's not the kind of snow you can do anything with. You can't sled, ski, or build a snowman with it. You can't even make a small snowball, but it's more than we've seen in a long time. So be happy for us.

With this snow on the ground and the cold that should come with it, I now ask - Why are all the stores now selling shorts and skimpy bathing suits? Does summer come early in Virginia? After all, January is usually followed by a cold February and wet March. In Italy we took our coats off in March and wore light jackets around, but it wasn't warm enough for shorts. Does Virginia suddenly warm up in February, allowing people to bust out swim suits and head to the pool? This is very confusing to me.

In other news: Landon is making some progress in the getting up by himself department. This morning, with out his parents telling him to, he got out of bed and walked over to the door, but couldn't get the door open. I think if he had been successful in opening the door, he would have made it to the bathroom.

Yay for snow! And YAY for the progress in the potty! And YAY for the fixed haircut! I hate it when hairstylists don't listen to what you want. Why pay them do hack and your hair and not accomplish anything- you could let Sam do that with a pair of scissors for free! You look awesome though!
