More Snow

I had plans to go to a play group with the boys this morning. The boys were very excited. But we got a call, and the group was canceled because there is a "snow storm" going on outside right now. I've also been informed that schools are closed. My brother told me of days in St. Louis when they would close the schools with less than an inch of snow on the ground. It seems silly to me. I grew up on a street in Salt Lake City where the road would have over a foot of snow on it and we were still expected to get to school. The bus drivers refused to come pick us up because of the snow, but we were still expected to be there on time. In High School, we had a really bad storm that started in the middle of the night, and by 7:00 AM when I needed to leave for school, there was three feet of snow covering the ground, yet they didn't close school. So when I'm told that they closed schools for the day I expect it to look like this: Or worse.

But in stead I see this:
And this:When I can still see grass through the snow, I know it's not enough to close the schools. I need to be more flexible, I guess.

It may not be much, but it's enough for people around here. So...if there is enough in an hour, we'll probably go try some sledding.

That's what we thought when we had our snow storm a while ago. We masured 3 inches in our yard and school was closed. People here just don't know how to drive on it so I was glad I didn't have to try to take Andrew. In fact, if they hadn't canceled school, I would have kept him home anyway just for that reason. The last time it had snowed that much here was in the 70's so to the locals it was a huge deal.

I bet the kids around here wish they would close school when we got that much snow!

I know why they close school with not much snow. Because the schools are run by the county (Loudoun) you have a very large area and part of it will have snow like Idaho so need to have school canceled. You just happen to live in the part that doesn't get as much but still gets the days out. And believe me, the kids love their days out.
