Thursday March 12
Let's go back to the beginning of our trip. Chris had ten days off for Spring break and we got a decent deal on round trip tickets to visit family. Chris filled up our ipod with Backyardigan shows so the boys would be entertained on the plane ride. Knowing we had a really early flight we tried to get some sleep. I was able to get in five hours, the boys got around 6 but Chris just couldn't fall asleep. I think in the end he fell asleep around 2:15 AM, just in time for my alarm to go off at 3:00. The first flight was not good. Chris was, to say the least, exhausted and I was sick to my stomach. I am NOT a morning person and since High School I have never been able to get up early, eat breakfast and still feel good. We had a three hour layover in the Midway, Chicago airport, where the boys ran around, played on the moving walkways, ate food, read books and then fifteen minutes before we were supposed to board our second airplane Landon lay down and fell asleep.
Chris woke him up and off we went to Salt Lake. The boys were so good for the flights. They never cried, they were just glued to the ipod. Sam didn't like wearing the ear phones , but he still sat and watched his favorite Backyardigans. My dad surprised us at the baggage claim and was kind enough to take our bags for us while we hauled the car seats and the boys over to get our rental car. Landon slept for the car ride to my parents house. We had some food when we got there and then Chris crashed into bed. Sleeping for three hours. In the meantime, my dad took me and the boys out for a walk to see the dogs in the neighborhood. I think we saw three. Sam was so tired he wanted to be carried for most of the walk, so my dad was kind enough to carry him for me. Sam wasn't all that happy about it, though Afterward I woke Chris up but he was still so tired that we left him at home and my parents took us to Hires for dinner. I love that place. (I ate way too much food on this trip. I'm sure you'll see for yourself soon enough.) Sam loved the fries and Landon ate all of his chicken. After dinner I drove over to my brother's house to surprise Laurelin. I really wanted to see her and their boys, though I knew Daniel wouldn't be home. She showed me all around her new house, it was very exciting. They have a beautiful new home, and Landon was able to play with his cousins. All in all the first day of our trip was - though exhausting - a success, mainly because the boys were so good, a little cautious around my parents, but so obedient.
