Christopher finally graduated, last Thursday the 21st of May, 2009. His parents Kraig and Norma (Dan and Terri, his mom and step-dad, couldn't make it) arrived early that morning so they could attend the ceremony and spend some time with us. They were exhausted from their red eye flight, but somehow they made it through the ceremony without sleeping through it...mostly. The main speaker was Ban Ki Moon, Secretary General of the UN. I concentrated on keeping the boys entertained but from what I could understand he talked a lot about the Climate Change and Global warming, which is when I voluntarily tuned out. Though from the amount of applause, many people were impressed with his words.

A few weeks ago we received an email stating that, because of the swine flu epidemic, our Dean didn't want to be a conduit to spread it through the graduating class, so she wasn't going to shake hands. Most University Deans, across the US, made the same decision, but after receiving several bad emails about it, she changed her mind and went through with the regular shaking of hands ceremony, but every student was given a bottle of hand sanitizer as they walked off the stage.

We tried to keep the boys entertained with books and Dora,

but after seeing Chris walk across the stage and back to his seat, Sam became very upset. I think Sam thought Chris would come join us in our seats. He was inconsolable so I took the boys out to the lounge and let them eat snacks and run around.

Afterward we walked accross the street and took pictures. These are a few of my favorites.

We walked most of the way back to the school, (about five LONG blocks) to drop off the rented Cap and Gown and enjoy a little refreshment. The school was bursting at the seams with people and the food wasn't filling enough so we walked over to Fuddruckers for hamburgers and fries, then we walked back to the metro station. It probably would have been easier to drive into town, but I'm chicken when it comes to driving in DC, and we didn't like the prospect of parking. We were all very tired when we got home, (especially Kraig and Norma), and it was a very boring ceremony, but it was worth it! We are very proud of Christopher!!! I LOVE YOU CHRIS!!!
