To end our exciting week, we celebrated Sam's third birthday on Sunday with a big RED cake and three little candles and some presents thrown into the fun. Thanks to all of Sam's grandparents for supplying the presents! Love You!!!
When asked what kind of cake Sam wanted, he requested a "red Spiderman cake." He really emphasized the RED part, so I thought I would give him some red frosting on a chocolate cake, but I don't particularly like home-made frosting (or that stuff that comes out of the tubes), and (even after calling my Engineer of a brother-in-law) I couldn't figure out how to get a really red frosting. I solved this with finding a red velvet cake mix. (Sam was so excited about it he had to carry it to the check-out himself) I probably should have made blue frosting, but I was feeling a bit lazy so settled with white and sprinkles on top. Sam stood on a chair and watched the whole mixing and frosting processes.
Sam liked his cake so much, he ate two big bowls of it.

laura, for future reference, the best way to get True Red is to use the gel food colorings, like the Wilton kind you get at Joanns or Michaels. You have to use a lot, but it will get red. They have a red one that is specifically called "no taste red" so you don't get the nasty taste of the food coloring when you do that. Also, if you have an actual cake store that sells supplies, sometimes they have colored frostings made up from scratch to sell so you don't have to make it!
I'm sure glad that Sam is a true 3 year old now because of Spider Man. I took care of this three year old this past year and he was convinced his real name was Spider Man. Which is great except he was lost and couldn't tell the nice police man his real name so they could find his mother and let her know where he was. His real named turned out to be Tiago. I heart 3 year olds lots!
