The 23rd of May was Landon and Samuel's last day of school. This is the first school year that we didn't pull the kids out early from their classes. I think they had a good final week, though Sam was sad that he didn't get any end of the year awards. Landon got a "perfect attendance" award for the last trimester of the year. I was amazed. We've never gone so long without being sick. Sam on the other hand got pink eye and a double ear infection just in time to miss his class field trip on the 15th. Poor boy is hopefully over his cold now.
The 23rd was also Seth's 3rd Birthday. I tried to make it a fun day for him. After getting his brothers off to school I drove Seth and Violet over to the Walmart and Seth got to ride the "rides" while Violet watched from the grocery cart.
We made cupcakes and watched a dinosaur movie, and then had lunch with Dad! For dinner he chose hot dogs and Cheetos. The cupcakes and ice cream were good but once Seth saw his presents he forgot all about desert.
Bath tub toy trains, dinosaurs and a small Spiderman made his day complete. He also got a big water table to play with outside this summer, but our backyard is such a mess right now he's just going to have to wait to play with it.
We spent Memorial Day weekend moving. Saturday, one of Chris' friends came over and they moved all the big, awkward and heavy stuff while I spent most of my time taking care of the kids(mostly Violet and Seth) and trying to pack the kitchen into boxes. In the afternoon we took another load of everything I had boxed up and we slept in our new home. Sunday I came down with a terrible cold so mostly I vegged out coughing and blowing my nose. Monday we went back to the rental home to clear the rest of it out. We filled up the trailer and our neighbors offered to take some of the rest in their truck and we spent the rest of the day unpacking and trying to organize, which is what I will be doing for a while to come, I'm sure. The rental is still not completely empty but the plan is to go tomorrow and pick up the rest, mow the lawn and finish cleaning. YAY!
As for our kitchen, we are almost done. All that is left is the backsplash and the trim along the floor. We spent a weekend sanding and painting the cabinets (okay so Chris did all the sanding and most of the painting and all the heavy lifting involved) We've picked out the backsplash, all we have to do is tile it in, but that might not happen for a few more weeks.
Friday we are driving down to Marsh Valley to spend the weekend with family. Chris is going to butcher some chickens and try to teach our boys where their food comes from. I will be staying far way from the killing. It may not be very fun, but we should get some good chicken dinners out of it. It will be nice to see family anyway.
Landon is no longer wearing a retainer. No, his teeth aren't fixed, but the Orthodontist and I decided this way was just not working. The retainer has had to be fixed twice and then less than a week after the second fix it somehow got a very bad crack in it and a mangled wire. It was basically unfixable, and we would have to make a brand new one. I was hoping it would cost me $100 or less, but the doctor says we should just go with Plan B. In June Landon will be getting braces in his mouth. This will hopefully go faster than the retainer and his cross bite should be fixed by the end of the summer....hopefully. On the bright side, our nice doctor is not charging us much for Plan B. This Orthodontist bill is still coming in considerably lower than the next lowest Orthodontist bid.
In Other News: I had my 20 week ultrasound yesterday. The whole family went so the room was a little cramped but the boys really liked seeing the baby on the monitor and hearing the heartbeat. The doctor says everything looks good and the baby seems to be healthy. My due date didn't change, so we will be welcoming another little GIRLto our family this October. Landon and Sam gave each other a big hug and jumped up and down together. In actuality we all thought we'd be having a girl so it wasn't much of a surprise.
I think she might have Chris' nose.
