Pinewood Derby

I had said that we wouldn't be doing a Pinewood Derby this year because we built box cars to race, but we moved and so Landon is in a different cub scout pack and this past week was the pinewood derby.  Landon and Chris sanded and painted the car last week, on Thursday (the day of the race) Chris came home from work and started on the wheels.  I think they worked on the car a total of an hour and a half.  The last Derby we entered Chris spent days and days on the car, so we weren't expecting to do well in the race.  They did some trial runs with all the cars and we were surprised to find our Green Machine went pretty fast.  Chris got excited and started applying more graphite to the wheels after every third run so the car would not slow down.

There were several very fast cars and it was very close so imagine how surprised I was when we came in first place.  Landon and Sam expected it from the beginning because we won the last derby we entered.  Maybe we should have lost so that they don't expect it every time......oh well.  There is always next year to teach that lesson.
