Baby Callie

This little girl has been with us for almost two weeks now.  When she's not sleeping she enjoys yelling and grunting.  I find myself wondering if she's angry about being sent away from our home in heaven only to find herself in this cold cruel world.

Our little Callie Eliza was born on September 21 at 10:36 at night after only an hour and a half of genuine labor.  Thank goodness for pain medication.  I still felt some pain at the end, but it was no where near the pain of Seth's birth.  Chris and I were both astonished at the amount of hair on her little head, and even my mom teased me about "meeting" with her FedEx delivery man.

My due date was not until the 11th of October, and since Violet took her sweet time to get here, I assumed this little girl would do the same.  I had a doctor appointment on the 18th of September for an ultrasound and to check for strep B stuff, so while he had me half naked on the table i had him check to see if my recent contractions were helping my body progress towards labor.  He and I were both a little surprised that I was already dilated to a 3.  the next two days I had several contractions and I felt really sore.  By Sunday night I was tired of feeling that way and I was curious to see if I was still progressing.  So Chris called his friend to come over and we went to the hospital.  I was really expecting to be sent home.  The doctor once again checked me found I was dilated to 4.5, and decided I was in labor even though I wasn't having constant contractions. They gave me an IV and an epidural  and then broke my water for me.  That was all the urging Callie needed.  An hour and a half later they called the doctor back in to find her crowning, and three pushes later she was out.  I did feel some pain at the end, but I didn't want to push the button on the epidural medicine because I really wanted to stop being numb as soon as possible so I could walk around and begin healing.

Because she was born so late at night I had to stay two nights at the hospital so they could do their 24 hour checks.  My parents arrived Monday afternoon and I didn't get home until Tuesday morning.  Dad spent the whole time working on the yard.  He mowed all the weeds down and fixed the sprinklers.  My mom filled our refrigerator, washed and folded my laundry, kept the dishes clean, and cooked some great meals.  They left Thursday Morning and as they drove away I realized I hadn't taken any pictures of them reading with the older boys and making blanket tents with Seth.  On Monday September 29 Chris' mom, Terri came to town to help me while Chris spent most of the last week at work preparing and then participating in his latest jury trial.  It's was nice to be able to leave my little ones at home asleep while I went to pick up the bigger boys from school on Wednesday.  Landon had a mysteriously high fever and we are still not sure what was wrong with him except the temperature of his body was making him feel miserable.

Violet crawled into my lap this morning and snuggled.  It was nice to be able to hold both of my girls a the same time.
