About a month ago..wait lets start somewhere else. Growing up I never really noticed a lot of static electricity during wintertime. Granted the air was a little drier because of the heat circulating throughout the house all the time, but my parents had a humidifier attached to the furnace so, though we did have some static it really wasn't very noticeable. When Chris and I lived in Logan Utah, I noticed it. During the winter of 2005-2006 the air in our home was full of static electricity. The shocks we received just from turning on the lights were painful. So for Christmas, Chris bought me a very large humidifier that fixed the problem. When we moved here to Virginia we didn't bother looking for a new filter for my massive humidifier. We figured that there was enough humidity in the air, we wouldn't need it. We were, of course, wrong. We've been having terrible problems with static this past few months. So...getting back to where I started...about a month ago our boys were playing on their indoor slide while Chris was working on the computer. Suddenly a large static charge traveled from the slide, through the carpet and into the computer. We've been noticing major problems ever since. It has become much slower and freezes at the most inconvenient of times. This last week it has started to randomly restart. Last week Chris got fed up and so went online to see how expensive a new computer would be. He ended up finding a computer kit that he could put together himself, that was fairly cheep. (We figured we can afford it because Chris got a part time job this semester..didn't I mention that? Yep Chris got a work study job at school this semester. He works in the computer lab as technical support. Basically he studies and gets paid for it, unless someone needs a video recording or they need some troubleshooting done. ) After buying the computer we were feeling some buyers remorse...but today we're no longer sorry that we splurged. The random restarting of our computer started getting worse yesterday. It restarted itself three times in a half an hour period yesterday afternoon, and then two more times before bed last night. Today the computer decided that it can't work for more than a half an hour without restarting. So when the computer parts showed up from UPS this afternoon, we knew that A Higher Power inspired Chris to get so frustrated, that he bought the computer parts at just the right time. So all he needs to do now is earn the money to pay for them. Which, to us is usually the backwards way of going about things, but like I said: I Higher Power was definitely behind the whole computer splurge.
Oh...and Chris is going to find a better place to put the computer tower, so as to avoid future static problems.
Chris is putting the computer together right now, as I work on the lap top. So I'll put some pictures of the slide and computers up later.
PS -Thank you Kellie for the new background site. Very cute!!

Wow! I didn't know static could travel like that! How crazy. At least you get a new computer out of it!
I am considering your blog a warning to us. We also have a slide that is close to our computer that has a lot of static. Scary! I am moving the slide to another room right now!
