"You have a great blog. come look at mine." or my personal favorite, "You have won an award for being someone's favorite blog to read. Go to my website and claim your prize."(YEAH RIGHT! like people really want to give me something for having a blog about my kids.) I promptly erase these comments in order to avoid the temptation to actually go to those particular sites, because I have this problem with being curious/bored.
When I was little, every year around Christmas time, they had commercials urging children to call Santa and tell him what to get them for Christmas. My sister and I called in without my parents permission. The Santa had this really cheesy message, and at the end of it gave us another phone number to call. (I'm not sure if it was to talk to another Santa or some other Christmas character like Rudolf or Frosty) We were curious/stupid kids, so we called that one too. I think we ended up calling at least five other phone numbers and ended back on our original Santa.(yes we called him a second time, just to make sure) Needless to say, my parents weren't very happy with us when they got the phone bill that month. I think I was 6 years-old making my sister 9. How were we supposed to know 1-900 numbers cost money?!!! This story merely illustrates my issue with curiosity/boredom.
To make the story short.....too late.....I've been contemplating privacy issues and the future state of this blog. Do I start a new one? Do I go private? Do I change my sign in password weekly, making it hard for Christopher to sign into his Gmail account? (Chris would tell me to get my own Gmail account, at this point) OR Do I wait this out and hope it blows over. I like it that my blog isn't private. I like that family and friends can stumble on here without being "invited" because sometimes it's nice to "blog-stalk" people with out them knowing you're there. I do it all the time.....though not to people who I don't know, or to people who I think would really mind me looking into their lives. I say this way too often but.......DO ANY OF YOU HAVE A GOOD SUGGESTION TO THIS PROBLEM?!!! I'm dying to hear your solutions.

It sounds like they may just be spam comments. If I were you I would change my setting so you have to type in the hidden word and then if it's computer generated spam it won't be able to go through. I would also put a site meter on so you can see where the people are from. If I was still getting creepy comments, I would go private for the safety of my family, even if it was inconvenient for others. Good luck!
Hey Laura! I've gotten a couple of those, but not enough to make me change my settings... Do you have your comments set up to be moderated? That way, only comments you approve can go on your blog. I have friends that have gone private, and I totally understand the reasons, however the down side is I have to REMEMBER to check them because they don't automatically update in my google reader... I'll go for months wondering why certain friends haven't updated and then realize I just haven't manually checked them... Either way you decide I support your decision!
It's just spam. ..perhaps you need to install some kind of spam filter widget or plugin... do a search for them. that will take care of it all.
I am not a stalker, but this is perhaps the exact reason you might want to go private or at the very least, make it impossible for people to find you by hitting 'next blog'. That's how I got here. I am a teacher and parent and have several blogs here. Anyone can find my blog by doing a search or going directly to the URL, but they have to look for me on purpose. They can not get to my blogs by choosing next. My 2nd grade students had blogs and I had them all disable that feature for safety reasons.

Also take your blog out of the Google Search Results (you can do this under Settings, then Privacy). I used to get some of those. I just changed all my privacy settings, and added the Word Verification to be able to comment and I haven't had any strange comments since.
Ok--it wasn't just you and me calling Santa Laura--Dan was in on it too. HE was the instigator! And we knew very well it cost money to call, we just thought that it wouldn't cost us if the call was less than a minute long. So before a minute was up we'd call another number. We probably called way more than 5 different numbers though:) Glad we both still remember the fun we had when mom and dad were gone and Dan was babysitting:)
LOVE YOU
